The second year of the East-Midlands Construction Resource Efficiency Club is now in full swing with three successful workshops already taking place; including a Waste Legislation and Site Waste Management workshop and most recently an Environmental Performance Indicator Workshop organised to help companies realise cost-savings and reduced environmental impact, whilst remaining in compliance with legislation. A further seven events are scheduled to take place throughout 2007.

Ian Nicholson, Managing Director of Responsible Solutions and Club Project Manager, said: “It has been heartening to see the level of attendance to these events, it is evident that club membership is assisting the shift in practices within the member organisations at a senior level. It is the clubs intention that the on-site support will assist this shift in practice to percolate down through organisations to on-site practices”.

There are 12 core members to the club who are currently busy electing sites in which to implement resource efficiency best practice, under the guidance of the club’s management team. The on-site resource efficiency planning workshops will be taking place in the coming months.

The club will be hosting a FREE, OPEN WORKSHOP on Thursday 21st June, on the Implications of the Waste Electronic and Electric Equipment Regulations on the Construction Industry.

Many construction firms are unwittingly affected, for example;

  • You might be a house builder selling white goods with your houses. In which case all the producer responsibilities will fall in your lap!
  • You might import electrical equipment from outside the EU, in which case, its your duty to ensure that all WEEE is disposed of in the prescribed manner.

The event promises to be a thought provoking and informative seminar with a leading expert in the field, Mark Shayler from Eco3, giving his thoughts on how the industry is affected by the Directive and what the industry can do to ensure it is compliant.
