  • Christian Aid argues that Britain’s share of global CO2 emissions is far     higher than the 2% claimed by Tony Blair, and that : “Our research reveals a truly staggering quantity of unreported carbon dioxide is emitted around the world by the FTSE100 companies”

  • The ‘UK Green Building Council’ was launched on 27 February 2007, with a start-up membership of 36 of the most influential companies in the sector, with the aim of : “Dramatically improving the sustainability of the built environment within the next 10 years”

  •  As one of Europe’s windiest countries, the UK had a record breaking year in 2006 with 634 mW installed through ‘wind farms’ – a 47% increase over 2005.

  • Approximately two thirds of houses standing in 2050 will have been built prior to 1996, and many will fall well below commonly accepted thermal standards – if the planned reduction of 60% of carbon emissions is to be achieved, then this reality has to be crucially addressed.
