Retrofitting

There is a growing number of events being organised across the country to discuss this subject, and those we know about are listed on the events calendar.

Towards the end of 2012, the Government hope to launch the Green Deal which will provide loans to upgrade-insulate-retrofit buildings. It is planned that this loan will stay with the building and not the owner and should cover the cost of post insulation energy savings.  Currently, the sector skills councils, ConstructionSkills, Asset Skills & Summit Skills are working together with an expert panel to develop the skills and qualifications needed for those who will be retrofitting buildings.

Work is already being done in Wales to address the issue with building regulations. Cliff Blundell (author of 'Our Precious Inheritance') is working closely with the Welsh Government to see where changes can be made to allow traditional and vernacular buildings to be developed sensitively and make them fit for the future.

If you have an interest in this subject, particularly from a contracting or professional basis, then we would like to hear from you. Please contact us.
