Specialist Apprenticeships
As a result of the lack of availability of traditional college based Modern Apprenticeships for a range of specialist occupational sectors, the National Specialist Team of ConstructionSkills has worked with the industry to develop and introduce apprenticeship programmes which meet the requirements of employers within these sectors. These are known as Specialist Apprenticeships.
These programmes are comprised of training modules, which can be delivered through a flexible timetable of short duration off the job training sessions as well as on the job mentored training. The content within the modules will provide the candidate with the necessary formal training to provide them with the necessary skills and knowledge required in working towards achieving the NVQ Level 2 qualification over a period not exceeding 2 years.
Off-the-job training is provided by Industry recognised experts in their field, including material/equipment manufacturers, with delivery being at locations around the country to suit the employer.
Access to the Specialist Apprentice Programme (SAP) is open to candidates of all ages. For eligble employers, the programmes also enable access to full
CITB-ConstructionSkills grant.
A range of Heritage craft occupations to level 3 are available:
- Bricklayer / Craft Mason
- Lead Worker
- Plasterer
- Roof Slater & Tiler
- Stonemason
- Oak & Timber Framing
And the following are in development:
- Carpenter / Joiner
- Painter & Decorator
