NVQ
NVQs have now been adapted into the Qualifications & Credit Framework, and at Level 3 are now refered to as 'NVQ Diplomas'. The Heritage Skills NVQ Diploma has been developed to Level 3 (see our QCF page to see this award in context with other vocational and academic awards). There is a Level 2 Heritage Qualification through Ascentis and ABC Awarding bodies.
An NVQ is a work-based qualification. Although a learner will need to register with a training provider, all assessment is done 'On Site'. Currently, the majority of training providers offering the NVQ Diploma do not have funding, and therefore costs must be bet by the employer or learner.
The qualification consists of five mandatory units and then two units from eleven optional routes:
- Decorative Occupations
-
Plastering Occupations (Solid)
- Plastering Occupations (Fibrous)
-
Wall and Floor Tiling Occupations
- Roof Slating and Tiling Occupations
-
Wood Occupations
- Mason
-
Brick Worker
- Earth Builder
-
Finisher
- Dry Stone
The learner is assessed whilst at work. If the Assessor identifies areas of work that do not meet the National Occupational Standards, then appropriate training will be identified to allow the learner to reach this standard.
Full qualification details can be found on the Construction Awards Alliance website, where you can search for any of the qualifications above.
