Understanding World Heritage

Starts: Tuesday, 7th February 2012 - 7.00pm

Ends: Tuesday, 7th February 2012 - 8.30pm

Location: Cromford Mills, Derbyshire

The Derwent Valley… as you’ve never seen it before.

The Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site is a special place, with historic buildings of international significance set in beautiful countryside. It also has a human inheritance of creativity and culture. On 7th February there is a unique opportunity to see a spectacular evocation of the Site projected onto the dramatic backdrop of Cromford Mills.

...to where it begins is a remarkable video artwork by Illuminos (the artists Matt, Rob and Ella Vale), which was commissioned by the World Heritage Site in 2010, with support from the East Midlands Improvement and Efficiency Partnership. Their brief was to celebrate the beauty and history of the valley. This has been achieved through words and music which follow a figure who dances through seasons and spaces. Thanks to an Arts Council Bursary via the arts organisation The Collaborators, this film can now be shown for one night only within the arena formed by the Cromford Mills.

The showing of this short film begins at 7.00 pm on Tuesday 7th February. The event is free, so just turn up shortly before 7.00 pm. It will be followed by a talk and discussion with the World Heritage Site team about the future of the Site. This forms part of the Arkwright Society’s lecture series on Understanding World Heritage.
