About EurekaBuild

Introduction
EurekaBuild is EUREKA Umbrella dedicated to generating and supporting projects in the area of construction.

EurekaBuild was created to improve the communication and cooperation between European researchers and industrialists due to facilitate and stimulate generation of innovative R&D projects, focused on the development of products, services and applied technology that will improve the international competitiveness of the construction sector.

EurekaBuild will tackle two main challenges:

  1. to become sustainable by reducing resource consumption, managing transport and utilities networks in a sustainable way, reducing environmental and man-made impacts, improving safety and security and protecting cultural heritage;
  2. to become a demand-driven sector by including more knowledge in the products but also all along the whole value chain.

Goals
EurekaBuild main goal is: Promotion and facilitation of the development of multinational industrial projects aiming at contributing to the vision of the construction sector and dedicated towards competitive innovation. The goals of the EurekaBuild will be achieved by:

  • improving cooperation within the European Construction Technology Platform network focusing more than 20 National Construction Technology Platforms
  • promoting generation of R&D projects in following thematic areas:
    • Technologies for Healthy, Safe, Accessible and Stimulating Indoor Environments for All
      Innovative Use of Underground Space
    • New Technologies, Concepts and High Tech Materials for Efficient and Clean Buildings
    • Reduce Environmental and Man-made Impacts of Built Environment and Cities
    • Sustainable Management of Transports and Utilities Networks
    • A Living Cultural Heritage for an Attractive Europe
    • Improve Safety and Security within the Construction Sector
    • New Integrated Processes for the Construction Sector
    • High Added Value Construction Materials
  • organizing international thematic workshops with brokerage events as a platform for discussion projects ideas and possible partnerships
  • supporting EurekaBuild members in gaining access to unconventional innovative technology and scientific methods and generating high quality projects

Organisation
The structure of EurekaBuild has been defined taking into account the organisation of the ECTP and in particular the networks of the NTPs. The management of the EurekaBuild consists of following bodies:

Chairman
The EurekaBuild is chaired by Dragados represented by Jesús Rodríguez who is concurrently the chairman of ECTP Support Group. The main responsibility for the chairman will be to assure the interaction between ECTP (Vision and Strategic Research Agenda) and EurekaBuild, together with National Construction Technologies Platforms from those countries that are members of EurekaBuild.

Secretariat
The EurekaBuild Secretariat is run by CSTB (Centre Scientifique et Technique du Bâtiment) represented by Luc Bourdeau. CSTB is concurrently responsible for the ECTP secretariat.
The Secretariat assists the Chairman, Steering Committee and Technical Committee in the coordination

EurekaBuild:
distribution of information to interested parties
coordination of the WP activities, consolidation of the Umbrella planning, day-to-day coordination of follow up of activities, coordination of the communication between the Umbrella partners
management of the Collaborative Work Site
interface with the Eureka Secretariat and interface between EurekaBuild and the Umbrella's NCP
coordination of the contributions of the WP Leaders in view of the progress and final reports

Steering Committee (SC)
The Steering Committee is the strategic decision-making body of the Umbrella. It is chaired by the Umbrella Chairman, assisted by the Secretariat, and is composed of the NUP (Public Representative) and NUS (Sector Representative) from each participating country and one representative form the Eureka Secretariat.
The Steering Committee meets once a year to discuss and approve the further activities of the Umbrella for the following period.

Technical Committee (TC)
The Technical Committee is the working body of the Umbrella where the activities of the Work Packages (WPs) are coordinated, planned and agreed. The Technical Committee is composed of the WPs leaders (two per WP). It is chaired by the Umbrella Chairman assisted by the Secretariat.

The European countries participating EurekaBuild are the following: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France,Greece (joining project), Lithuania, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and United Kingdom.
