The Construction Industry Council (CIC) is the representative forum for the professional bodies, research organisations and specialist business associations in the construction industry.

It provides a single voice for professionals in all sectors of the built environment through its collective membership of 500,000 individual professionals and 25,000 firms of construction consultants.

In addition, CIC represents the views of the higher level of the industry (professional, managerial and technical) in ConstructionSkills – the Sector Skills Council for construction. ConstructionSkills is a partnership between CIC, CITB-ConstructionSkills and CITB Northern Ireland.

Construction Industry Council (CIC) Chairs' Summit Meeting calls for action to avert skills crisis

The first summit meeting of the leaders of key East Midlands professional built environment institutions has highlighted an industry crisis caused by a skills shortage in the region and calls for urgent action.  The meeting has hosted by Construction Industry Council East Midlands (CICEM), of which ICE East Midlands is this year's Secretariat, on 11 July.  It was also attended by representatives from East Midlands Development Agency (emda) at the offices of East Midlands Centre for Constructing the Built Environment (EMCBE).  This is the first summit of the region's leading professional institutes to formally meet as a group to discuss issues of concern and set the current priorities for the industry.  The summit is another sign of the increasing co-operation between the professions that make up the backbone of all construction and infrastructure building projects that are carried out in the East Midlands
