Background

'Bridging the Gap’ research (CITB and Loughborough University) undertaken back in 2002 identified a need for a joined-up response for attacking the skills issues within the region’s construction industry; from skills shortages to ensuring an exciting cultural environment with which to attract new businesses and developments.

To ensure the East Midlands stayed one step ahead of these needs the East Midlands Development Agency (EMDA) adopted a strategy to create a central organisation to act as a single voice for the region’s construction industry; to unite the region’s construction industry and ensure economic, environmental and social success.

East Midlands Centre for constructing the Built Environment (EMCBE) was established in September 2004 to provide the strategic leadership for the interests of the Region’s construction industry.

EMCBE aims to provide this strategic leadership through strong research into key areas such as environmental issues and skills development; a diverse and informative Events Calendar aimed at individual small/medium businesses and key figures within the region; and by providing a platform through which government organisations can develop and implement agendas.
