Local Government Task Force

Local Government Task Force (LGTF)

The Local Government Task Force was launched in March 2000 and since the beginning of 2004 has been part of Constructing Excellence. It was set up in response to the issues raised in the Construction Task Force Report 'Rethinking Construction'. The report highlighted the problem of the industry failing to deliver consistent quality and value for money, with projects frequently overrunning by time and budget.

As clients of the construction industry, Local Authorities and Central Government combined represent approximately 40% of the construction industry's business. As such they have the potential to dramatically change the way the industry works.

The Local Government Task Force is part of the wider Rethinking Construction initiative to promote innovation and best practice in construction. It also embraces the ideals of the 'Best Value' initiative, which examines and reviews the procurement process of Local Authorities. It works closely with the Housing Forum and the Movement for Innovation.

  • The Movement For Innovation promotes innovation across the entire industry.
  • The Housing Forum promotes the initiative among house builders and their clients.

The Task Force promotes Rethinking Construction principles among Local Authorities and seeks to raise standards through actively encouraging them to submit demonstration projects.
