Welcome to the East Midlands Regional awards page.  This year eight regions will be hosting regional awards ceremonies to celebrate the best of construction from their local industries.  The winners from within each region will go forward to a national final that will take place in November 2009.

Please take some time to consider which category you wish submit an entry for:

  • contractor of the year
  • small business of the year
  • client of the year
  • project of the year

Submissions should relate to either ongoing work or any project or example of organisational change that will be completed by 1 August 2009.

All entries will be considered by an independent panel of judges.

The Awards will be celebrated at an event in October 2009 more information will be available in due course.

Skills and Training

This award seeks to highlight those businesses with company-wide processes to support education and training. These systems might be aimed at filling the skills- gap or up-skilling the workforce, attracting under-represented groups, training within the supply chain or developing specialist skills.

Measures of impact upon, for example, students/pupils; employee or supply chain numbers; staff involvement; wider educational outcomes. Permanent, organisation-wide systems & processes in place.

Infrastructure Award

This category must emphasis the multi-disciplinary expertise of professionals involved in the design, planning and construction of our built environment: roads, water supply, wastewater, stormwater, power supply, flood management, recreational, and other assets. It can include projects that tackle issues such as crime, health, sport or education.

Physical and/or social regeneration; re-use of existing land. Social sustainability.

Joined-up agencies; agency/interest group engagement

Environmental Sustainability

Award

Awards for the Environment play a crucial role in demonstrating progress on environmental and sustainable development issues

Measures of impact upon business operations for example, effective management of environmental, financial and social responsibilities such as biodiversity, energy efficiency, sustainable buildings, waste and/or recycling.

Process, technology and/or design, successful innovation of sustainable products, services and manufacturing processes, minimising pollution and environmental impacts

Local communities, community engagement, agency/interest group engagement.

Innovation

Business Award

This award seeks to reward innovation and business process improvements that focus on key business drivers such as quality, time and cost.

Impact upon business measured by key performance indicators

Business process, technology, supply chain innovation.

Occupants, client, consultants, contractors, subcontractors, manufacturers

Heritage Award

Heritage Awards can be made for schemes of repair, improvement and enhancement which significantly improve the aesthetic quality of the building/project
the repair or restoration of a listed building;
the alteration, improvement or extension of a listed building or other building;
the improvement to external spaces, gardens and courtyards;
a scheme of redecoration or improvement; an outstanding new building;

Funds received as part of a local regeneration initiative, number of people trained in heritage skills, use of traditional methods and materials, demonstration of added educational value.

Business process, supply chain

Engagement with other agencies as part of a regeneration initiative, supply chain, schools, community

Contractor of the Year

This Award recognises contractors that are pushing the boundaries of the Rethinking Construction agenda, to improve the quality and efficiency of the service provided to its clients. 

Reductions in construction cost, time and defects, demonstrated by performance measurement on projects which could include: prisons, sporting venues, military schools, hospitals and high-rise homes

Innovation in leadership, improving customer satisfaction, delivering quality, investment in R&D.

Integrated processes and teams

Small Business of the Year

Recognises a significant impact on the industry over the previous year and strong prospects for future growth.

Demonstrating a strong commitment to health and safety, safe working conditions, improving management and supervisory skills.

Eg. standard components and processes; waste minimisation, value for the customer.

Involving architects, quantity surveyors, joiners, civil engineers, aggregates suppliers, property developers, building contractors, demolition, electrical, flooring and manufacturers.

Client of the Year

Recognises clients with the drive to ensure that best practice principles are adopted on its projects and throughout its supply chain.

Lead the integration of product development, project implementation and partnering in the supply chain.

Share knowledge through Demonstration Projects and/or the Best Practice Programme.

Replace competitive tendering with long term relationships based on clear performance measurement.

Project of the Year

Recognises the highest level of technical achievement, innovation and application of best practice, while delivering a project to time and budget and with team working throughout the supply chain.
