Sustainable Solutions

BioRegional (www.bioregional.com) is an entrepreneurial charity, which initiates
practical sustainability solutions, and then delivers them by setting up new
partnerships and enterprises around the world.

  • “We assist and encourage others to achieve sustainability through consultancy,
    education and informing policy”.
  • “Our vision is that of thriving regional economies where we meet more of our
needs from local, renewable and waste resources, enabling people to
enjoy a high quality of life within their fair share of the earth’s resources
    – what we call ‘One Planet Living’”.

‘One Planet Living (www.oneplanetliving.org) is BioRegional’s vision of a sustainable
world, in which people everywhere can enjoy a high quality of life within the productive
capacity of one planet (rather than the implied 3 for the UK and 5 for the US). We are
consuming resources and polluting the planet at a level the Earth (one planet) cannot
sustain.

The ’10 One Planet Living Principles’ developed by BioRegional and the World Wildlife
Foundation include:

  • Zero Carbon
Making buildings more energy efficient and delivering all energy with
    renewable technologies.
  • Zero Waste
Reducing the waste arising, reusing where possible, and ultimately
    sending zero waste to landfill.
  • Sustainable Transport
Encouraging low carbon modes of transport to reduce emissions,
    reducing the need to travel.
  • Sustainable Materials
Using sustainable products that have a low embodied energy.
  • Local and Sustainable Food
Choosing low impact, local, seasonal and organic diets and reducing
    food waste.
  • Sustainable Water
Using water more efficiently in buildings and in the products we buy,
tackling local flooding and water course pollution.
  • Natural Habitats and Wildlife
Protecting and expanding old habitats and creating new space for wildlife.
  • Culture & Heritage
Reviving local identity and wisdom; support for, and participation in, the arts.
  • Equity, Fair-Trade and Local Economy
Inclusive, empowering workplaces with equitable pay; support for local
    communities and fair trade.
  • Health & Happiness
Encouraging active, sociable, meaningful lives to promote good health and well
    being.
