East-Midlands Construction Resource Efficiency Club News

We have just past the half way mark for the second year of the East-Midlands Construction Resource Efficiency Club and after a quiet period over the summer the club is back in full swing. The most recent workshop looked at the current hot topic for the industry, Carbon Footprinting!! Members of the REC are able to download all the presentation material from this workshop on the REC website.

Now most of the projects which were involved in the REC in the first year have finished we are beginning to calculate what the actual savings that companies have experienced. To date 20% of the potential saving that were identified, have been converted into actual savings but there is still along way to go.   It’s clear that organisations who implement resource efficiency best practice experience the financial and environmental benefits which go straight to their bottom line. However, the industry still needs to move their disposal options further up the waste hierarchy and concentrate their efforts on re-use and elimination!

Finally, the club has scheduled a high profile event for the conclusion of this years REC to take place at the end of January. This will look at “Designing out Waste: Opportunities and Barriers” and pull together industry professionals form all different arenas, including architects, designers, supplies and contractors. The event will take the format of a series of mini presentations followed by a question time style panel debate. Further updates on this event will follow in due course.
