LINCOLN UNIVERSITY REVEALS NEW DEVELOPMENT PLANS

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY REVEALS NEW DEVELOPMENT PLANS
10 March 2010

The University of Lincoln has set out its master plan for further expansion of its city centre campus.

Landscaped squares, state-of-the-art footbridges and new hubs of creativity have been factored into the ever-increasing sprawl of the university.

And a major new addition will be the Artbox - a studio space for art and design students.
It means another 900 students drawn down into the city from buildings they are currently housed in - the Greestone building in Lindum Road and Thomas Parker House in Silver Street.

And the university plans to build its third state-of-the-art footbridge from the Artbox back to Brayford Pool - a project that will alone cost around £3m.

Estates director at the university John Plumridge said the main sticking point for development in the city was the railway.

He said: "I think Network Rail have a duty to provide footpaths and bridges, it's a requirement to do that wherever."

The Artbox and the university's brand new engineering school are set to be complete by 2011/2012.
