Fusion Power Construction Opportunities to be Launched Next Month

The half day event will focus on the major items that are likely to be procured over the next 12 years including civil engineering, magnets, vacuum vessel and technical support in areas such as architect engineer.

ITER’s aim is to demonstrate integrated physics and engineering on the scale of a power station and scientists hope the reactor will produce 500 MW of fusion power. It will be one of the world’s largest international research and development projects involving all the European Union, China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Russia, the USA and India.

The procurement of Europe's contribution to the ITER programme has already started with the award of a contract for site clearance to a consortium of Macagno, Dolza and SMAG-Jaubert. Further contracts for civil engineering and buildings will commence towards the end of 2007 and the beginning of 2008.
