Implications of WEEE for the Construction Industry

Thursday 21st June 2007, half day seminar 9.00 - 12.30pm

Followed by a buffet lunch and networking

Description

The WEEE Directive enforces the recovery and recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment (e.g. household appliances and I.T and communications equipment) at the end of its life. It came into force 2nd January 2007, with the aim of minimizing the impact of electrical and electronic goods on the environment, by increasing re-use and recycling and reducing the amount of WEEE going to landfill.

Many construction firms are unwittingly affected, for example;

  • You might be a house builder selling white goods with your houses. In which case all the producer responsibilities will fall in your lap!
  • You might import electrical equipment from outside the EU, in which case, its your duty to ensure that all WEEE is disposed of in the prescribed manner.

The event promises to be a thought provoking and informative seminar with a leading expert in the field, Mark Shayler from Eco3, giving his thoughts on how the industry is affected by the Directive and what the industry can do to ensure it is compliant.
