Legislation is steadily increasing the need for buildings to be sustainable. It is clear to see that sustainability can no longer be regarded as a niche industry. The building services industry must now change its outlook and start to make sustainable practices the norm.
Moving on from a theoretical approach, the CIBSE/ASHRAE Conference 2008 will explore sustainability for both new and re-commissioned buildings from a practical perspective. The conference will focus on: how to navigate new legislation and Building Regulations; best practice from around the world; and ‘how to' expertise in costing, constructing, staffing and selling sustainability. Attendance is essential for anyone wishing to equip themselves for the future demands of clients, Government and the environment.
Attendees will benefit from speakers with extensive experience of:
- Building design and operations with an understanding of what works in practice and what doesn't.
- Implementing sound green technologies in buildings.
- Practical knowledge of legislation and how to avoid the pitfalls which may result in future liabilities.
- In addition, building services engineers can learn from building operators, commissioning experts, contractors and installers, energy assessors and some big name clients on how the buildings they are designing work in practice, thus equipping them to improve their future work.
CIBSE and ASHRAE have come together for the 2008 Conference on the Tyne. Newcastle upon Tyne is a prime example of sustainable regeneration on a massive scale and an ideal venue for a conference which will focus on the issues involved in designing and operating a greener building.
Who should attend?
An audience of over 300 people is expected to attend this year's event. Although the conference is open to all, the majority of those attending are expected to be senior managers and key decision makers with a strong contingent of young engineers attending to be inspired about the opportunities and challenges ahead.
Architects, designers, consultants, contractors, manufacturers, services engineers, central and local government representatives, financiers, suppliers, facilities managers, building owners, building operators and management companies will all be coming together, to understand what can be done in practice to minimise carbon emissions from buildings now, and to permit further reductions in the future.
